The gig economy is booming, this is an employment model where people take short-term or freelance jobs instead of permanent contracts. This model is particularly popular with couriers, food delivery workers and taxi drivers. A study by the Citizens Advice Bureau estimates there are over 4.8 million self employed workers in the UK, many of which operate in the gig economy. There are also 1.8 million people working in the zero-hours contract area, a notoriously unreliable source of income.
