The controversy to award the 2018 World Cup to Russia in December 2010 left many across the world wondering what FIFA hoped to gain from the decision. The same scepticism emerged with the announcement to host the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, yet these games passed off as a great success. As the world focuses on the opening game of the World Cup on Thursday June 14th, many countries are embracing a state boycott started by the UK. Japan, Australia, Iceland, Poland and Denmark have all backed the UK, with many other countries expected to follow.

On the 6th February 1918 The Representation of the People Act 1918 was passed. This historic moment saw women who met certain criteria being allowed to vote for the first time in the United Kingdom. Women over the age of 30 who met the specified property requirements, were a member or were married to a member of the local government register or were educated in University were able to cast their ballots.

The downturn in the economy has seen a dramatic increase in people seeking ‘quick ways’ to make money. Many have turned to volunteering for medical trials as one of the solutions. The National Institute for Health Research show over 650000 people volunteer each year for medical trials, many of which are paid handsomely. Most people assume the volunteers for medical trials are healthy patients but in fact many volunteers are those seeking treatments for conditions they have.

TVMucho Show of the week May 21 – 28

The incredible raid on the Mohne, Edersee and Sorpe dams, known as Operation CHASTISE  was designed to the fight to the industrial heartland of the Ruhr and Eder Valley’s. On the night of the 16th May 1943, 19 Lancaster bombers departed RAF Scampton in Lincolnshire, only 11 aircraft returned, 53 aircrew lost their lives and 3 were taken as POW. The raids however were deemed a success, they breached deep into German territory and delivered Barnes Wallis’ famous ‘bouncing bomb’, breaching 2 of the dams and damaging the 3rd.
