Preview of Quiz ITV’s new Drama

Wed, March 25th, 2020

In 2001, Charles Ingram scooped up the jackpot of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire after answering all 15 questions correctly. Later it was discovered that a fellow contestant, Tecwen Whittock, had been coughing to alert him of the correct answers.

Today, the ‘coughing scandal’ is famously known as “the most British crime ever”. Two years ago, it became the subject of a West End show. This year, the play has been adapted for the screen and will be airing on ITV as a miniseries called “Quiz”.

Here, we’ll tell you everything we know about this upcoming miniseries from the cast to the plot to the release date.
When Will Quiz be Released?
Quiz will hit ITV in April 2020. There will be three hour-long episodes. The exact release date is yet to be announced.

What Is Quiz About?

Quiz will be all about Charles Ingram, his wife Diana, Tewen Whittock, and the extraordinary reality TV scandal that shocked the entire nation and made headlines for months back in 2001.

The show will take us back to 2001 when army Major Charles Ingram took part in the famous game show Who Wants to be a Millionaire. For those who’ve never seen it, the premise of the game show is simple. Contestants answer general knowledge questions. Fifteen correct answers, and you win £1 million! Back in its heyday, the show attracted up to 19 million viewers to ITV (the same station that will be airing this new dramatisation!).

Major Charles Ingram, his wife, and a third accomplice plotted to cough for each right answer. This show will tell the whole story, from the plotting in the quiet Wiltshire village to the dramatic game show, to the court trial and public outrage that followed.

It’s safe to say, this show is going to be filled with drama, scandal, and lots of fun. Who doesn’t like the sound of the ultimate British heist!

Who is in the Cast of Quiz?

The cast is jam-packed with British stars known around the world for their work in the nation’s TV and film in recent years. Here are just a few of the familiar faces you can expect to see in Quiz.

Matthew Macfadyen stars as Major Charles Ingram, who cheats his way to the £1 million jackpot. Macfadyen is known for his roles in HBO’s Succession and as the latest Mr. Darcy in Joe Wright’s Pride and Prejudice.

Sian Clifford will play Diana Ingram, Charles’ wife and accomplice. Clifford is best known for her recent turn as Claire in Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s critically acclaimed Fleabag.

Michael Sheen will play Chris Tarrant, the legendary show host. Sheen is known for Masters of Sex, Frost/ Nixon, and The Queen, amongst other projects.

Other familiar faces include Mark Bonnar (Assassin’s Creed, Line of Duty), Michael Jibson (Les Miserables, The Bank Job), and Helen McCrory (His Dark Materials, Peaky Blinders). We will also see Aisling Bea (comedian and actor known for Living With Yourself) as the ITV Entertainment Commissioner, Claudia Rosencrantz.

Who is Involved in the Production of Quiz?

The show was produced by Left Bank Pictures for ITV and AMC. It was written by James Graham, the British playwright who also authored the script of the successful West End production. Graham is also known for his plays This House, Finding Neverland, and Ink. Stephen Frears, the acclaimed director known for A Very English Scandal, Florence Foster Jenkins, and The Queen, directed all three episodes of Quiz.

Is There a Trailer for Quiz?

Yes, ITV just released a full trailer for Quiz a few days ago! From the looks of things, this show is going to be a gripping and quirky drama perfect for the crazy scandal that it is based on.

What Else Do We Know About Quiz on ITV?

We don’t know much else about the new series. We have got a few production stills and the brand new trailer to give us an idea of what to expect. From these first glimpses at the show, we can definitely expect a wild ride. If you were one of the millions that followed the jaw-dropping, sensational scandal back in the naughties, you are sure to love this audacious and scandalous show.

If this was fiction you’d find it ridiculous. But the fact that it is true and well-told makes it unmissable TV. It’s a very English heist.

Filming took place last August in London, and the series is currently in post-production, ready to hit screens in April of this year.
