Hollyoaks is a British soap opera which first aired on the 23rd of October 1995. The series centres on the lives of teenage friends and their families as they graduate through high school and college. Hollyoaks has depicted several taboo subjects rarely seen on UK TV, for which it has received many awards. It also won the award for Best British Soap in 2014 and 2019. The soap was originally targeted at a young adult audience, but has broadened its appeal in recent years.
